The CrossFit Glasgow Spartans Weightlifting Club is looking for fresh blood and early discussions with Weightlifting Scotland suggest that we will be hosting at least 2 major competitions this year. Previous members should renew their memberships through one of the head coaches. Get involved.
Reebok CrossFit Games Open 2013
That time is upon us once more. The CrossFit Games season is closing in fast and the biggest names in the Sport of Fitness will be vying for the title of the “Fittest on Earth”. Mikko Salo (Winner, 2009 Games) and Josh Bridges (Tipped for 1st place last year had he not been on active service) will return to the fold in a bid to topple Rich Froning from the top spot.
Annie Thorsdottir will be defending her title from stiff competition in the USA while the UK No. 1 Samantha Briggs makes a return from injury: could this be her year?
CrossFit Glasgow will be programming and validating all of the workouts from this year’s Open competition: The Open constitutes a series of online qualifiers that will see the progression of the best male and female individuals and best teams to the European Regional competition and ultimately to The Games.
But more than this: The Open presents an opportunity for everyone – irrespective of experience – to compete on an international level and to support their box and their fellow athletes. Regardless of how fit or strong you think you are; whether you come twice a week or twice a day, this is a fantastic opportunity to get involved with your community, to test yourself and to help our best athletes prove themselves on the world stage. Even a score of a single rep in any given workout puts you and your team very much on the map.
Everyone in the box will be taking part and last year CrossFit Glasgow represented the largest team in the UK and the 3rd largest in Europe (CFG, Largest Teams). We have a huge and supportive member base and last year’s Open was possibly the most electrifying atmosphere we’ve ever had. Everybody was a hero: whether it was Scott Wilson’s touch-and-go power snatches, Gary Wilson’s 133 Burpees in 7 minutes or Philippa Roy’s first time completing a WOD with Rx box jumps, everyone played their part.
Last year’s images : crowds of people screaming for their friends to eke out just a few more reps, individuals pushing themselves to the point of tears; the tantrums, the high 5s, the tears of joy and the tears of frustration. Remember those 5 o’clock rises to check the WODs? Remember doing the same WOD over and over again just to get that one extra rep?
We’re here again and we are stronger, faster and more accomplished. We have the community: Let the world see it.
