WOD Thursday 7th March 2013 “CFG 2013 Open Begins”

By |2013-03-06T23:23:21+00:00March 6th, 2013|CrossFit Games Open 2013, Events, WOD|

It is here. We've waited a year for this day to come and it is finally upon us. The Reebok CrossFit Games 2013 has arrived and as of this moment every one of the 174 members that has registered so far is officially a competitive athlete. Whether this is your first year or you are a Games veteran, whether you have just completed your fundamentals or you have competed at Regionals: these are your Games and nobody's score means anything except your own. If you simply give everything you can. If you give your biggest lift, your fastest time or just hold on until the timer hits zero: you will know you have done your all, and nobody can take that from you. CrossFit Glasgow, you are ready. Games Open workout 13.1 will be run as the WOD on Friday: all athletes are asked to turn up promptly to the class times and to bring all necessary kit. Wrist wraps, Voodoo Floss bands, tape and speed ropes will be available for purchase for those that require them. WOD Thursday 21st of February ’13

By |2013-02-20T21:58:05+00:00February 20th, 2013|CrossFit Games Open 2013|

Yet another black box session at CFG: You love them. There will be no mobility WOD with Jonny from Physio Effect this Thursday but he should be back to business as usual next week. This Sunday at 10am there will be a handstand master class with Omercan Cirit of Glasgow Parkour Coaching. As the CrossFit Games Open draws ever closer it's absolutely vital that you prepare yourself for the unknown and unknowable. This class is not to be missed. You may have heard us mention the CrossFit Games Open. Maybe. We are currently the largest team in Europe and are hanging in for a top 3 spot worldwide. We are 6 places behind Equipe CrossFit Laval in Canada, with whom we've had an entertaining tit for tat battle for the top spot for the past 2 weeks. We were shocked to see CrossFit NYC go top in a single day with 196 registered athletes but we are still definitely in the game: even at 54 places behind this American giant we have the numbers to make up the deficit. I know. I counted. If you have not already done so, take a minute and contribute to making CrossFit Glasgow a part of history by adding your name to the affiliate roster today. Register for the CrossFit Games Open 2013.

10 Minute AMRAP 30 Double Unders 10 Overhead Squats 50/35kg There is no mobility WOD this evening. The 19.15 class will run as normal. Girls WOD will go ahead this Saturday at 11. The CrossFit Glasgow Spartans Weightlifting Club is looking for fresh blood and early discussions with Weightlifting Scotland suggest that we will be hosting at least 2 major competitions this year. Previous members should renew their memberships through one of the head coaches. Get involved. Reebok CrossFit Games Open 2013 That time is upon us once more. The CrossFit Games season is closing in fast and the biggest names in the Sport of Fitness will be vying for the title of the "Fittest on Earth". Mikko Salo (Winner, 2009 Games) and Josh Bridges (Tipped for 1st place last year had he not been on active service) will return to the fold in a bid to topple Rich Froning from the top spot. Annie Thorsdottir will be defending her title from stiff competition in the USA while the UK No. 1 Samantha Briggs makes a return from injury: could this be her year? CrossFit Glasgow will be programming and validating all of the workouts from this year's Open competition: The Open constitutes a series of online qualifiers that will see the progression of the best male and female individuals and best teams to the European Regional competition and ultimately to The Games. But more than this: The Open presents an opportunity for everyone - irrespective of experience - to [...]

CrossFit Glasgow is a legitimate, registered CrossFit affiliate gym. We pay an annual licence fee to CrossFit Inc to utilise the brand name in reference to the training methodology we provide. Our coaches have, at their own expense, invested in specialist training to bring the very best that CrossFit has to offer and the value of the training they provide lies in the expert knowledge they have received through exposure to the world's best coaches. As CrossFit develops and gains popularity we will encounter more of a small minority who want to use the CrossFit brand name to push their own business without investing in the ethos or necessary training. CrossFit is a registered trademark used under licence by legitimate affiliate gyms throughout the world yet some individuals without any sense of the community or skill in coaching the necessary components will try to pass off an inferior product under the CrossFit name simply because they know it is popular. They are making the money out of the hard work of other legitimate facilities and are acting illegally. Facilities that offer a substandard product dilute the standards and misrepresent the methodology in an way that cheapens the hard work of the affiliates and their members. If you have heard anyone suggesting that CrossFit is dangerous, "just circuits" or that it has no attention to standards of movement or athlete development through sensible programming; it is likely as a result of exposure to a poor imitation of what we produce here [...]
