Please remember that the gym is closed today (not an April fool, I assure you we won't be in - coaches need holidays too!), normal service will resume on Tuesday 2nd April. We will also be closed on Saturday 6th April as we are hosting the Scottish Open. All members are welcome to come along and support/spectate for free at the event. Some big lifters will be present as well as some members! We will be open on Sunday for a little longer to make up for being closed on Saturday.

Olympic lifting goes ahead tonight with some of the finest instruction on the Olympic lifts available in the UK from Ray Cavanagh, Haris Ansari and Colette Will: 2 UK number ones for their categories and a former Commonwealth Games athlete: if you have not already attended, why not? Jonny Kilpatrick of Physio Effect will be running a mobility WOD instead of the 19.15 class on Thursday night and will cover a range of mobilisation techniques that will enable you to maximise range of motion, minimise joint impingement and reduce the negative effects of repeated training sessions. The girls WOD will go ahead this saturday conditioning our female athletes for competition and strength and covering skills not routinely encountered by the fairer sex. Sunday sees the return of the Parkour team WOD: functional fitness set in a dynamic team-based format. The gym will be running open qualifiers for the second team for the Divided We Fall competition in Swansea on the 21st of October. It will be an all day event costing £6 per competitor with all funds going toward supporting our teams at the comp. Even if you have no aspirations toward competing at DWF or if you feel that you are not yet at that standard, it is worthwhile for everyone to take part and get a sense of the community and of a real competition. WOD CrossFit Total 3 Attempts to reach a Single Rep Maximum (1RM) in the following lifts: Strict Press Back Squat Deadlift   This WOD marks the start of the retest phase for the Paleo Spartans. We will have your previous scores to hand when you come down so that you'll know how much you've improved. Get in and give it your all, this is what you've been working for. CrossFit Glasgow has been given the go ahead from SWL to host the 2012 Scottish Weightlifting Open. This is a major event on the British Weightlifting calendar with both Olympic and Commonwealth Games athletes likely to make an appearance. If you wish to compete this year please make sure that you affiliate through the CFG Spartans Weightlifting Club and collect an application form for the competition itself. If you feel that you are not yet up to scratch on your Olympic lifts then make sure you attend this week's coaching session on Tuesday night at 8pm. Jonny's mobility classes continue this week with more structured torture for the inflexible, and the Conditioning for Parkour classes will go ahead as normal on Thursday. These classes are filling up rapidly so get your names up on the board to avoid disappointment. There are now 45 members of the box signed up to the Games Open. "Grace" 30x Clean & Jerk 60kg   Our popular Parkour class will run again tonight at 19.00. Come on down and get some great exposure to explosive bodyweight movement, agility, coordination and balance. CrossFit Glasgow Spartans Weightlifting club has been invited to a BWL/CrossFit competition in Hampshire on the 17th of December and we'd love to send a team. Road Trip? If you are interested in competing or simply want to develop your skills under the watchful eyes of our Olympic lifting coaches come along to our Club night on Tuesdays. Jonny's mobility classes will begin from next week. This is a great opportunity to finally start addressing those issues that continue to dog your technique. He will show you how to increase range of motion, improve flexibility and reduce the risk of injury all in a encouraging and supportive atmosphere. Get involved!
