Andy MacIntyre, long time member of CFG, will soon be undertaking his first ultra-marathon for a good cause.  Please show your support and sponsor him, a form can be found on the office counter "On the 3rd of August 2013 along with 2 others I will be taking part in my first ultra marathon, The Devil O' The Highlands, which is 43 miles following the second half of the West Highland Way from Tyndrum to Fort William.   We hope to raise some money for a local charity that has special meaning to one of my fellow runners.  Any donation no matter how small is greatly appreciated. Below is the link to the Just giving page and there is also a sponsor sheet at the reception in the gym.   I thank you for your support. The Zak Scott Braveheart Foundation was set up in memory of our very own ‘braveheart’, our son, grandson, brother, nephew and friend, Zak, in September 2011. The Foundation aims to provide help and grant small wishes of children and young people with a heart disorder who are on the cardiac surgical waiting list at Yorkhill Sick Children’s Hospital. With your help they and their families can experience the joy and excitement of having a small wish granted to give strength and hope for a speedy recovery. We also aim to provide a journal for each child/young person receiving treatment from the cardiac team with the hope to give some comfort through documenting their own personal journey. [...]

Annual Meeting For CrossFit Glasgow Members

By |2013-07-16T23:52:47+01:00July 16th, 2013|Information, WOD|

This Saturday morning CrossFit Glasgow "Reebok Recognised" will be hosting a meeting to discuss the development of CrossFit Glasgow from its humble beginnings, to its present state and beyond. We will begin the proceedings at 11.00 As Glasgow's largest and longest running CrossFit facility continues to grow within our own community, already one of the largest in the UK, we will seek to raise our profile throughout Europe and farther afield. We have already taken one of our athletes and coaching staff, Steph Dekker, to European Regionals and the CFG team represented on the main stage as the largest in Europe (185 registered members) and the 9th largest in the world (out of over 6,500 gyms worldwide). This is a path we would very much like to continue and we view the meeting this weekend to discuss the future of the CFG community as we expand into a dedicated competition facility that will allow us to accommodate the additional training requirements of the competitive CrossFit athlete and those that have progressed to a point where aspects of their programming require more focused attention. The new facility will enable us to include a CrossFit Kids program, CrossFit Strongman training, Westside Barbell/CrossFit Powerlifting programming, and team training all under the guidance of Glasgow's only qualified coaching staff. We will also be discussing upcoming events including Rob Orlando's Strongman Tour and seminar; the U63kg and U75kg World's Strongest Women competitions we are hosting; CrossFit Endurance, CrossFit Powerlifting, CrossFit Rowing, CrossFit Mobility with Kelly [...]

WOD Wednesday 28th May 2013

By |2013-05-28T20:58:29+01:00May 28th, 2013|Information, WOD|

In Teams 3x 10 minute AMRAP 200m Row 10x Burpees 15x KBS 24/16 20x Wall Ball Throws 20/14 25x Jumping Lunges (25 Total, alternate legs, fully extend at the hip) Rest 3 Minutes You may not overtake the team member in front of you. Each completed station earns the team one point. There are no points awarded for incomplete stations. Jonny's mobility class will take place tomorrow evening instead of the 19.15 WOD and will help you to develop a range of techniques that you can utilise to progress your range of motion in your own time as well as giving you a thorough mobility session in its own right. He also has a new range of sweet tees if you are so inclined. Girls' WOD will take place on Saturday at 11am. All male athletes should be finished their workout by this time and anyone turning up late will be politely asked to leave. This time is deliberately set aside so that our female athletes, especially the new ones, can work on the skills and lifts that are typically troublesome for them. Please allow them to do so in an organised, comfortable and focussed environment. The gym will be closed immediately after this WOD. Thank you for your assistance with this.

Fundraiser

By |2013-04-24T22:13:16+01:00April 24th, 2013|Information|

Next Monday we will be running a fundraising WOD to help one of Scotland’s rising stars of Olympic lifting compete in Austria. Colette Will is currently the British senior and junior champion, Scottish Open and Western Districts champion and placed 2nd at the International Womens Grand Prix. Colette has helped many of you to develop your own skills by assisting Ray on the Tuesday night OL sessions and we would love to get as many of you involved as possible. Olympic lifting is gaining popularity in Scotland with around a 10% increase in participation year on year. CrossFit Glasgow has been instrumental in developing the sport by hosting the Scottish Open competition for the past two years and by getting literally hundreds of athletes cleaning, jerking and snatching as part of their day to day training. However, weightlifting remains a sport with relatively little investment at a grassroots level and the cost to individual athletes to compete in domestic and international competition can be prohibitively expensive. Please help to push Scottish sport to a position of international excellence by taking part. The WOD will be “Grace” (30x Ground to overhead for time 42.5kg/62.5kg) and if you wish to compete against one of the most promising young talents in the UK please donate £5 in the box on the day. There is no obligation to sponsor and the WODs will run as normal but we would be very grateful if you could help fly the flag for a great friend to [...]
