Hi All,

This week brings Crossfit HQ and affiliates the start of new beginnings with the sale of CrossFit to Eric Roza.  It goes without saying that CFG and the larger community of CrossFit are very excited about this.

A little about Eric Roza, the new owner and CEO of CrossFit.  He discovered CrossFit 10 years ago and is a box owner in Boulder Colorado. He was previously the chief executive of Datalogix, a data company that was acquired by Oracle in 2015, and is also chairman of TrueCoach, a software company for personal trainers.  His statement on Instagram really defines his aspirations and intentions for the CrossFit brand and affiliates:

  • “As a box owner and athlete, I’ve experienced CrossFit’s transformative power and the shared bond it creates between people of different races, genders, ages, ethnicities, incomes, educations and physical abilities. That magic, created by our affiliate owners, coaches, and athletes in 158 countries around the world, is real. And I believe it makes the world a better place.”
  • “In the past weeks, divisive statements and allegations have left many members of our community struggling to reconcile our transformative experiences in the local box with what we’ve been reading online.”
  • “My view is simple: Racism and sexism are abhorrent and will not be tolerated in CrossFit. We open our arms to everyone, and I will be working hard to rebuild bridges with those whose trust we have lost.”
  • “I come to you with deep humility and the realization that we have hard work to do. I am committed to listening, I am committed to learning, and I am committed to leading positive change. Most of all, I am committed to CrossFit and to you, as a member of our community.”
  • “If you are committed to the future of CrossFit and have ideas, I want to hear from you. And if you loved CrossFit, and we lost you along the way, I want to regain your trust and partnership.”

This week’s schedule:

Tuesday June 23rd 17:30 : CFG Healthy Home Cooked Dinners – this week we are making a very tasty but healthy meal. This will serve 2 people.

This session will be about 30min.

Salsa verde salmon with smashed chickpea salad

3 tsp olive oil

1 orange, zested and juiced

2 skin-on salmon fillets

small bunch of parsley (including stalks), finely chopped

½ tbsp Dijon mustard

1 shallot or ½ small red onion, finely chopped

½ tbsp red wine vinegar

400g can chickpeas, drained and rinsed

2 roasted red peppers from a jar, drained and chopped

50g kale

  1. Heat the grill to high. Whisk 1 tsp of the oil with the orange zest, a splash of the juice, lots of black pepper and a small pinch of salt. Put the salmon, skin-side down, on a non-stick baking tray and pour over the marinade. Leave to marinate at room temperature while you make the salsa.
  2. Put the parsley, mustard, half the shallot, the vinegar, 1 tsp oil, and the remaining orange juice in a small food processor and blitz to a thick sauce, adding a splash of water to loosen if needed.
  3. Heat the remaining oil in a frying pan and fry the remaining shallot for 5 mins. Stir in the chickpeas and some seasoning, turn up the heat and stir until the chickpeas are just starting to crisp. Mash roughly with a potato masher and stir in the roasted peppers and kale. Add a splash of water and cover with a lid until the kale is wilted. Keep warm over a low heat.
  4. Grill the salmon for 4-6 mins, or until cooked to your liking. Spoon half the chickpeas onto a plate, top with a salmon fillet (leaving the skin behind if you like), and spoon over some of the salsa verde. Leave the remaining salmon fillet to cool to use in the lunchbox, see tip below.
